Cylinder Honing! What is Cylinder Honing? if you have ever wondered what is cylinder honing or why it is done i will explain how it is done. from the steps taken, to finished product. Alright back to the meat and potato's of a honing. Ironically the tool is called a "Hone" and when you home the cylinder you are removing a very small amount of material from the engine and are also simultaneously smoothing out the cylinder so that the piston rings can seal. This is usually done for a engine rebuild and need to re-hone the cylinder and replace the cylinder rings. Typically, you do these things together so I don't recommend that you try to reuse parts when replacing them. Cylinder gets honed for high compression and piston rings get replaced and the old ones are trashed. Simple right?
